Eléonore Saintagnan

An ABC Film, 2010, 21 min

For the short film An ABC Film (2010), French artist ELÉONORE SAINTAGNAN spent one month a few years ago in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges where she met the inhabitants of several villages and travelled all over the spectacular landscape in the Alsace region of France.

This film – like the rest of her work – is difficult to classify although she’s using the tools and the figures of contemporary documentary cinema. She rather creates assemblages somewhere between reality and fiction, documents and experimentations, and in which she collects portraits of people from unnoticed communities, exploring random regions and picking atypical ways of life.

And good news:  An ABC Film (2010) by ELÉONORE SAINTAGNAN is currently part of the exhibition Trois Fois Rien at Centre Calouste Gulbenkian, Paris until 15 december 2012.

ELÉONORE SAINTAGNAN, born in Paris in 1979, currently lives and works in Brussels. Her work has been exhibited and shown in several art centers and institutions, including at the Palais de Tokyo, at the Wiels Museum, in the Cinema of the Centre Pompidou, at the Beaux Arts Museum of Tourcoing, and for the « Salon de Montrouge » where she received the Curator Prize for the young artists european biennale. Her films were selected, for example, at the International Short films Festival of Clermont-Ferrand and Coté Court Pantin, at Hors Pistes festival and Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid, and FIDLab Marseille 2012.
