Galeria Daniel Moron is a youthful and energetic artist-run space in Chile which started in 2008. Named after a Chilean/Argentine soccer player ‘El Loro’ who is a true popular icon in Chile, the gallery doesn’t represent artist, doesn’t have a physical fixe space and doesn’t make money, instead they choose to be experimental, remain independent and not be linked to any scene.

Thanks to DAFNE CARRASCO and MAGALI DOUGOUD (both from the Comite Chile Cultura), Galeria Daniel Moron is actually presenting El Museo de la Resistencia in a quite new non-profit art space in Lausanne (Switzerland) called Urgent Paradise. El Museo de la Resistencia is based on the principle of work donations from Chilean artists and non-artists. The call for participation was free and anyone could take part, the only rule was to propose a small work, exportable and which could take place in a suitcase, corresponding to the size of the museum.

Collages made with panini stickers; illustrations; splintered boards; pikachu portrait; watercolor; chilean music playlists; videos; magazines; sculptures; chilean prisoner’s knife; all of them embrace contemporary image culture and the same DIY aesthetic. Nethertheless the exhibition really is a tossed salad of different styles and an alternative take on a curated group exhibition as well as a playful critic of the art world structures.

The second part of the project is now up: all artists and non-artist based in Switzerland are invited to participate by donating their works which will travel into the suitcase. Those work won’t be recovered and the gallery won’t sell them, but they will be shown as much as possible around the world. All participants are invited to bring their contribution on Saturday, 29th September from 2 p.m to 8 p.m at Urgent Paradise in Lausanne.

➝  El Museo de la Resistencia is running at Urgent Paradise through October 10, 2012.
