Working with video, sculpture, sound, installation and performance, RADA BOUKOVA
exploits the importance of what lies outside the frame. She focuses on this particular
space at the expense of the very image. The viewer is often placed in front of the
experience where “I see” actually means “I acknowledge” and where perception is
guided not so much by the image itself but by the hints provided for interpretation.

The result is a corpus of images, video and objects that dramatise the relation
between the material that is used and what it is used, arbitrarily, to represent,
making us aware of our ambiguous relation to the world and its weirdness.

Born in 1973 in Sofia, she graduated in scenography from the National Academy of Fine Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria in 1997. While still a student, she was also author of the
scenography of several theater productions. Then she graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris (2002), where she co-founded the artist collectives L’Agence (2002) and &nbsp (2005). Since 2005 she has taken active part in the actions of alternative art space La Générale in Paris and Sèvre.

And good news: her work is currently on view in the group exhibition Brainbow at Galerie Bertrand Grimont in Paris through July 13, 2012.
