ANN VERONICA JANSSENS’ artistic practice could be defined as an exploratory journey into the sensory experience of reality. Through the uses of light, artificial fog, projections and sound, JANSSENS‘ immersive installations serve to reveal the instability of our perception of time and space.

My work is like a laboratory. I might try something and I show what I try, and I don’t want to indicate how to see the work. You can make your personal opinion about what you explain of what you see – and even a child can know – everyone can see.

Although science usually occupies itself with the explanation of the physical world, JANSSENS uses it in a more evocative way to explore properties of matter (gloss, lightness, transparency, fluidity) and physical phenomena (reflection, refraction, perspective, balance, waves) and to destabilize the concept of materiality.

Born in 1956 in the United Kingdom, ANN VERONICA JANSSENS lives in Bruxelles. Her fog pieces appeared at the 1998 Sydney Biennale and she represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale in 1999. For a complete list of her exhibitions, follow this link!

And good news: you can view her work in person at CRAC Alsace (France) until 15 May, 2011
