This June, ART BASEL entered its fifth decade. The show started as an experiment, launched in 1970 by a handful of Basel gallerists-including the legendary ERNST BEYELER.

41 years later, ART BASEL brings art enthusiasts from around the world to Switzerland and remains the focal point of the international art world.

And the good thing (for me at least) ART BASEL could not take place anywhere else. Because the phrase “ART BASEL” means:

• meeting old friends on Messeplatz
• debating the latest developments in the Kunsthalle Biergarten
  
• watching the Rhine surge along from Wettsteinbrücke, while digesting thousands of artworks seen in an afternoon (c) ANNETTE SCHÖNHOLZER and MARC SPIEGLER, Co-Directors ART BASEL
