This weekend, I spent my saturday in Luzern (Switzerland) for the Fumetto International Comix Festival. Fumetto shows the most important draughtsmen of the independent comic scene, and the most promising new talents and directions and this during nine days. It was so good, that I decided to share with you great talents that I discovered there.

*1/STEFAN À WENGEN is a painter from Basel actually based in Düsseldorf (Germany) who is having his institutional solo show at Museum of Art Lucerne. He is best known for his use of fairly large groups of works treating questions relating to the cultural codes. In them the “alien” or “alienating” is again and again the starting point for his pictorial ideas. Most of his models are drawn from found photographs, or photographs taken by the artist himself which offer him formal starting points and influence his atmospherically charged paintings.

His paintings exude a very special, uncanny and sometimes fairy-tales atmosphere. Honestly, these photos (above) don’t convey 1% of the great quality of these large-scale paintings. My advice: don’t miss his next exhibition near to you!
