As I’m sure you know, JENNY HOLZER is exhibiting in Basel @ Fondation Beyeler until 24 January, 2010. On Sunday I had the chance to view the exhibition which is very good! The show comprises important objects from various phases of HOLZER’s career since the 1980s. The focus is on recent works, some of which have never before been shown in Europe. Featured works include:

Monument (2008), Thorax (2008), Purple (2008), Blue Cross (2008), Green Purple Cross (2008), Map (2008), Hand (2008), For Chicago (2007), Red Yellow Looming (2004), Redaction Paintings (2005-09), Lustmord Tables (1994), Benches (1989) and Plaques (1980-82).

In addition to the museum space, the exhibition also extends outdoors to the public domain. Spectacular light projections on key buildings and sites in Basel, Baselland, and Zurich will be on view on special nights

+ JENNY HOLZER
is famous for her short statements, formally called “truisms”. Some are common myths while others are just phrases on random subjects in the form of slogans ( for example: money creates taste, enjoy yourself because you can’t change anything anyway). LED signs became her most visible medium, though her diverse practice incorporates a wide array of media including bronze plaques, stone benches, T-shirts, paintings, photographs, sound, video and light projection.

The following videos* present JENNY HOLZER who talks the programming of her LED sculptures and her difficult relationship to writing during the installation of the exhibition PROTECT PROTECT at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago

* Fast all the works featured in these videos are presented @ Fondation Beyeler

enjoy ;-)
