The Belgian artist SOPHIE NYS brings together sculpture, drawing, photography, and video that examine with a wry sense of humour and play, themes of history, philosophy and architecture among others. With minimal interference and reduced means, her practice, objects and images from everyday life have been transformed and repositioned. In doing so the artist poses questions about cause and effect, transience and continuity and opens up new spaces for reflection, resistance, creativity and thought. –
As co-founder of Grotto, SOPHIE NYS (b.1974, Antwerp) has been also actively involved in making and publishing artist books from 2007 to 2012. She lives and works between Brussels and Zürich. She is reprensented by galleries Emmanuel Hervé, Paris, and Greta Meert, Brussels.
And good news: her work is currently on view at Crac Alsace, Altkirch in the exhibition Susan Vérité which is running through September 29, 2013.
