MAYA ROCHAT is a multidisciplinary artist, who works in the fields of photography, collage and installation, MAYA takes us into her own universe, a world mainly concerned with her immediate surroundings, tinged with mystery and blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality.

Working with different media and materials, her use of anachronistic methods reflects a concern with craft, introducing the hand of the artist into a medium usually associated with mechanical reproduction. Therefore, her work forms a vast web of intertwined images whose energy disturbs our habitual codes of interpretation and perception.

You simply not know what you are looking at” is the staring point of my research on visual ensembles. I confront different kind of images, in their content as in their plastic form; going against the series, going against the linear story. I stop for simple beauty, smashed perfection, smelly images, sad-fierce persons, loud drunk people, jumps out of the box, and those strange figures with lots lots lots of hairs. Through photography I’m commenting the now, identities, attitudes and moments of the allday life. I observe how society creates and imposes ideas and judgments through the commercial, social or politics visual languages. At the same time I am interested in the photographic medium itself in a context of extreme digitalization. The multi-layered images question our perceptions of truth. Lies and tricks are sometime subtile, sometimes obvious. Wanting it visible, I finally create colorful collages, BAM! Aggressive and cool! – MAYA ROCHAT for Der Greif
