Here at the WFW blog I spend a lot of time trolling the web. And one of my favourite
internet aventure is Them Thangs, a badass image blog run by JUSTIN BLYTH,
a multi-disciplinary creative raised in Los Angeles and now based in Amsterdam.

Just like the blog, the magazine – which looks like a large zine – features an eccentric collection of visual pieces and written works that explore ‘the contemporary use of Ritualistic Iconography’, a theme that sounds very specific but really it can be a lot of things. We have rituals and symbols everywhere around us every minute of our lives:

Systems of symbols and pictures that are constituted in a certain ordered and determined relationship to the form, content, and intention of presentation are believed to be among the most important means of knowing and expressing religious facts. Such systems also contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of the relationships between man and the realm of the sacred or holy (the transcendent, spiritual dimension). The symbol is, in effect, the mediator, presence, and real (or intelligible) representation of the holy in certain conventional and standardized forms. – JUSTIN BLYTH

For this issue, thirty-two international artists including MAX SNOW, JULIEN LANGENDORFF, JOEL EVEY, CLEON PETERSON are involved. If that sounds like a good colour combination to you, you can pick your copy through Them Thangs Editions.
