It’s that time of year again: A new edition of Fumetto, the International Comix-Festival in Luzern just started last weekend. As every year, Fumetto is presenting both national & international comic artists from the avant-garde and independent scene, including American artist ROBERT CRUMB, ANKE FEUCHTENBERGER from Germany, WARD ZWART (Belgium), and OLIVIER SCHRAUWEN (Belgium) among others.

The exhibition Emerit which showcases the work of German artist MARIJPOL is part of the most comprehensive exhibitions of the Festival. Featuring mural drawing, installation, ‘découpage’ and original works from her first book entitled Trommelfels (avant-Verlag 2011) and her brand new publication Emerit (avant-Verlag 2012),  MARIJPOL offers a playful and authentic insight into her surreal mythological comics.

The 30-year-old artist’s graphic work contains an abundance of absurd fantastic details that are truly refreshing in their ingenuity. Suspicious scientific experiments, protozoans and a lonely misanthrope with a head split by discord: all of them stand before the same oracle.

MARIJPOL lives and work in Hamburg, Germany where she is also doing other things with her hands besides drawing.

And good news: Fumetto is running through March 24, 2013 (make sure to check out the programme for the autograph sessions and the conferences).
