Swiss artist FLORIAN GRAF has turned – for the summer exhibition Well, Come – the Abbey of Bellelay (Switzerland) into his own studio and apartment. Welcomed by a 12m high sculpture entitled Be, Leave which seems to be supporting and at the same time destabilizing the Baroque architecture, the rest of space was transformed into an apartment where furniture and found objects from daily life mingled with the artist’s sculptures and images. Full of subtle and poetic details, the exhibition leaves a strange impression between absence and presence, fiction and reality, sacred and profane.

Being interested in the psychological and emotional relationship of human beings with their environment, FLORIAN GRAF – trained as an architect – explores the different ways architectural surroundings influence the spectator – both mentally and physically: intervening or integrating, he engages with specific architectural and social situations, creating places of poetic density where imagination and reverie are bleeding into reality. He creates interdisciplinary media installation in gallery context and public spaces including sculpture, propositional objects, photocollages, drawings and films. Often he performs in situ or personally activates a situation.

FLORIAN GRAF lives and works between Basel, London or Berlin. And good news: Well, Come is running through September 18th.
