Yves Netzhammer. The Refuge for Drawbacks

Earlier this year, I wrote a short post about Swiss artist YVES NETZHAMMER. But after having seen his first solo exhibition “Das Reservat Der Nachteile” (The Refuge for Drawbacks) at Kunstmuseum in Bern (Switzerland) last weekend, I thought immediately that was not enough.

Using an extremely concise and symbolic style, his drawings, room installations, murals, and computer-generated videos explore the philosophical and psychological aspects of the game of relationships between man, objects, and elements from the animal and vegetable kingdoms and the transformations that they spawn.

But more recently, YVES NETZHAMMER reveals a growing tendency to create theatrical installations in which the imaginary world of artistic animation films and computer drawings are transposed into a new kind of three-dimensionality. With the addition of precisely timed inserts of music, he constructs stages with symbolic objects on which human anxieties and concerns are expressed and enacted.

And good news:  you can experience in person “Das Reservat Der Nachteile” (The Refuge for Drawbacks) at Kunstmuseum until 2nd February 2011.

ps. YVES NETZHAMMER will be the 25th January for a conversation at Kunstmuseum Bern. See you there!
