Over four years British photographer MUZI QUAWSON lived with Amanda Jo Williams, a young mother and musician living in Woodstock (NY), staying for three months with each visit. “Pull Back the Shade” is a pictorial journey, documenting with total candor Amanda’s relationship with her partner and young twin daughters.

Focusing on people who are perceived as outsiders to society, MUZI QUAWSON explores the various social, financial, and political structures that define American society.

For several exhibitions, the color negatives have been developed as Duratran prints and placed in light boxes; the result is a series of illuminated photographs that resemble stills from a color film and reveals more the cinematic quality of the series.
