Emmeline de Mooij

Bush Compulsion, in collaboration with MELANIE BONAJO & ANNE DE VRIES. 2009

EMMELINE DE MOOIJ is based in New York and Amsterdam. Her work consists of installations, photographs and performances and refers to the roaming and panicking human being, living in a world of comfort, always homeless, dragging along the heavy burden of history and in search of meaning and shelter in the big open outside.

For Bush Compulsion: A Primitive Breakthrough in the Modern Mind, she has joined her force with mixed-media artists MELANIE BONAJO and ANNE DE VRIES. They explore man’s primitive and violent human instincts, and the performing of certain rites by spending days in the woods, naked, using masks, fetish objects and adornments to recall the society they have left behind.
