These works find their origin in the piece FISCHLI &WEISS made for the Munster Sculpture Project (1997), where they planted a flower and vegetable garden and documented its periodic growth through photographs.

In 1999, for their first exhibition at Matthew Marks Gallery in Chelsea, they showed more than 100 colourful, double-exposed photographs of flowers, hung floor to- ceiling. The impact was overwhelming. Their luscious colours and beautiful subject matter brought into focus a little pocket of reverie. Some would call it beauty, though others might term it kitsch.

PETER FISCHLI & DAVID WEISS began collaborating in 1979 and have had numerous museum exhibitions throughout Europe. They represented Switzerland in the XLVI Venice Biennale (1995). They are among the most renowned contemporary artists of Switzerland. Their best known work is the film “Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go).” In their work they adapt objects and situations of the everyday life and place them into an artistic context — often using humour and irony.
