An aesthetic of ruins and incomplete works animated CAMILLE BESSON and VIANNEY FIVEL’s exhibition Les Visiteurs (The Visitors) which took place this summer at the art space Quark in Geneva.

The exhibition alternated between skeletal wall pieces and floor works constructed from plaster, aluminium, paint, Plexiglas, prints from past exhibitions documentations as well as structures and displays used on day-to-day basis.  The presentation looked partial and gave the impression that something bigger was implied, asking the visitor, if it was ever whole, if the rest did exist and if some elements had always been part of the space or not.

Nevertheless and despite the ‘unfinished’ aesthetic of the works, at any moment the show suggested a work in progress, since BESSON and FIVEL had carefully calibrated every single images and objects, playing with them as if they were props. The works presented at Quark this summer, seemed more to describe the status of a work of art as an intermediary object within its relationship to space and viewer, to photographic reproduction and institutional presentation, to artistic production and readymades.
