Today’s pic is a work by LATIFA ECHAKHCH (b. 1974 in El Khnansa, lives in Martigny) which is in a group show called Shibboleth currently on view at Dvir Gallery in Tel Aviv. ECHAKHCH’s installations are known to draw the visitor into haunting situations that explore notions of time, space and memory by bringing cultural, sociopolitical and personal influences.

Also for this show, she exhibited a pair of tap shoes as well as a skeleton costume, both lying loosely on the floor. Untitled (Dancer) (2013) is part of a larger series which consists of clothes as well as accessories simply placed on the exhibition floor: a minimal gesture that has an unsettling psychological effect, and, although the piece contains no figures, the work suggests abstraction, and presence.

Shibboleth with ETTI ABERGEL, MIROSLAW BALKA, AVNER BEN GAL, JENNIFER BORNSTEIN, YOSSI BREGER, MIRCEA CANTOR, LATIFA ECHAKHCH, SIMON FUJIWARA, DOR GUEZ, MOSHE NINIO, FLORIAN PUMHÖSL, BARAK RAVITZ, MIRI SEGAL and LAWRENCE WEINER is on view at Dvir Gallery in Tel Aviv until September 5, 2015.

Please note also that LATIFA ECHAKHCH is currently having a solo exhibition entitled There’s Tears at Kaufmann Repetto in Milano that is running through the summer (!). Additionally she is going to present her work in a solo exhibiton at Haus Konstruktiv in Zürich this autumn (29 October 2015 to 31 January 2016).
