If you are out and about in Graz these next few days, don’t miss They were treating me like an object. As if I were some sextoy or shit. I don’t wanna see them again, a solo exhibition by PHILIPP TIMISCHL presented at the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien in Graz (Austria).

PHILIPP TIMISCHL (born 1989 in Graz) is mostly known for his sculptural installations which look like diptychs that mix flat digital screens distilling video loops, with canvas featuring appropriated images or texts. For his exhibition at the Künstlerhaus, which is also TIMISCHL’ first large institutional show, he seems to follow his interest of questioning the development and contradictions of our mediatised society by confronting this time, ideas of clarity and foggy motion, intimate and extensive relationship between images and identity as well as the production of art and artificiality.

According to the press release, the Austrian artist ‘reveals the process of conceiving and producing an exhibition, bringing all of the elements together onto one equal level by using printed banners hanging evenly throughout the space, fog machines, and a commissioned soundtrack (cover version of Linkin Park’s “Rebellion” by DAPHNE AHLERS). On the banners visitors see stills from an as-yet unfinished video project, next to various information such as the title of the exhibition, this very press release, conversations with friends, pages from the artist’s book he made for this show, or the lyrics to the above-mentioned soundtrack‘.
