For her second solo exhibition at STANDARD (OSLO) which just opened last week, Danish artist NINA BEIER has continued her sculptural explorations with a series of totem-like sculptures using headrests from chairs or car seats and granite.

She frequently joins together every day objects and materials in an inseparable union/installation that questions hierarchies of display and value, content and frame, and the implicit contradictions in process, practice and presentation.

BEIER’s works don’t just invert the interrelations between objects as representatives of different cultural classifications and their corresponding values, rather they create an oscillation between the two and an undecidability that renders the relationship itself central.

Heavy Hand is currently on view at Standard, Oslo and is running through February 16, 2013.
