French photographer OLIVER CLÉMENT manages to produce images that pay attention to tiny gestures and the incidental details of his everyday environment.
His series of black and white photographs entitled Stationary (2011) makes the banal, the everyday, the possibly maudlin and the certainly melancholy static and visible for us. OLIVER has a way of framing these subjects so that their scale becomes ambiguous – it’s sometimes hard to tell if his subject is a galaxy of stars or a spilled drink - inciting curiosity in the viewer, making us wonder about what we are looking at and what will happen next.
