Nine things you need to know about MONIKA SOSNOWSKA:

  1. she was born in Ryki, Poland in 1972
  2. after graduating in painting from the Fine Arts Academy in Poznan
  3. she finished her studies in Amsterdam at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten
  4. she first achieved international renown in 2003 with The Corridor, an intervention that formed part of the Arsenale exhibition of the 50th Venice Biennale
  5. in 2007 she represented Poland with a massive installation entitled 1:1 at the 52nd Biennale in Venice
  6. for the exhibition at Hauser & Wirth (New York) in 2010, she has created a series of site-specific sculptures which are inspired by the emergency stairwells that scale the sides of old buildings (see above)
  7. dismantling and manipulating each elements of the stairwell, she has giving each component its own autonomous sculptural identity parasiting our perceptions
  8. more recently she has been announced as one of the finalists for the 2012 Hugo Boss Prize
  9. she lives and works in Warsaw
