Ten things you need to know about NAVID NUUR:

  1. he was born in Tehran in 1976
  2. he refers to his works as ‘interimodules’ composed of the words ‘interim’ and ‘module’ and not sculptures or installations
  3. and rejects the term ‘site specific’
  4. in his view, the latter are too immobile and rigid to form the desired spatial and temporal link with their environment and the viewer: there are many ways in which a viewer can experience art. It’s not just about what you see. It’s also about what you feel, hear or touch, how you walk, how the air circulates in the exhibition space, how the light floods through the windows of the museum or how the stairs are installed. All these influence the way we perceive a situation. I address various senses to express my conceptual point of view. This creates works, some of which people can actually touch, some that only appear in the evening or during daylight, or others you have to walk around to experience
  5. his exhibitons reveal a playful fascination with ramifying pulsations of thought multiplying possibilities of action, abstract phenomenons, suddenly perceived juxtapositions, gestures of great delicacy and splices within sensations
  6. although the form and content of his work are abstract, the ideas, however, derive from daily existential observations
  7. the choice of the materials, which are usually taken from everyday life, including wax, floral arrangement foam blocks, Polaroid photographs, food, a rubbish container and packaging materials, taken from past shows or from the museal institutions, are part of his artistic set of rules
  8. in addition, he always closely links his works and their titles, thus stressing the context and the thematic statement
  9. his publication The Value of Void was also published last year by the excellent publisher Onomatopee
  10. he lives and works in The Hague, Holland
