Seven things you need to know about ROSEMARIE TROCKEL:
- she was born in the town of Schwerte in Westphalia in Germany
- after studying painting at the Werkkunstschule in Cologne from 1974 to 1978,
- she took her first artistic steps in the immediate vicinity of the Cologne artist group Mülheimer Freiheit
- the mid-1980s saw the start of her knitted pictures and knitted objects, which made her well-known internationally
- where she played with materiality and typical feminine arts and crafts techniques
- since then, her work has ranged over a wide variety of subjects and forms comprising pictures and drawings, sculptures and objects, as well as video works and installations
- more recently, she received the 2011 Kaiserring Award, given by the city of of Goslar, Germany
