Today I found this image of JESSICA WARBOYS, a British artist living and working between Paris and London, creating a painting in the sea near Stromboli two months ago for the Volcano Extravaganza.

The sea painting is part of a series of works where WARBOYS applies pigment to unstretched canvas before submerging it in the sea. Each painting is the result of that particular moment, a record of the physical conditions it was exposed to and of the interaction between pigment, waves and sand. Then she often intervenes in the space of the canvas by cropping the fabric or cutting parts out. Site-specificity and the relation between painting and architecture play an important part in the making and installation of the works.

I just wish to see more of her process. Meanwhile you can view the result of her sea paintings here
