Six things you need to know about STERLING RUBY:
- RUBY was born in Germany
- but grew up on the East Coast and attended college in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles for graduate school
- He’s known for producing visceral works which tackle issues like individual impulses and mechanisms of social control, Minimalism and Art Brut, graffiti art, desire, and pleasure
- and this, through a diverse practice that includes richly glazed amorphous ceramics, large-scale spray painted canvases, hypnotic videos, poured urethane sculptures, inscribed Formica monoliths, nail polish drawings, and collages
- Since 2010 STERLING RUBY is lecturing as a professor of art at European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland
- And good news: you have until the 28th May (tomorrow) to view his last exhibition “I AM NOT FREE BECAUSE I CAN BE EXPLODED ANYTIME” at Sprüth Magers in Berlin
