The works created by STEFAN BURGER are often grounded in photography even though the outcome looks quite different: at first glance, his installations, objects and large-format photographs transferred directly onto wood or cardboard, as well as videos, 16mm films and performance seem to relegate photography to secondary importance. In fact, he sees photography as a kind of base camp from which to branch out and explore other media.
-
STEFAN BURGER is interested in scenes that show the process of construction, the scaffolding and the supports. He exposes mechanisms: mechanisms of perception, production and operation. His quest leads him to the “circumstances” of the world, the movement backstage and the unfolding scenes. He also looks at the modus operandi of making art, producing pictures, and showing and exhibiting works.

STEFAN BURGER was born in 1977 Müllheim/Baden, Germany; he lives and works in Zurich. He studied Photography at the School for Art and Design Zurich from 1999 to 2003.

And good news: his book “sehr sehr dünne suppe – very very thin soup” is now available in the WFW Store
