Colorado-raised and NYC-based, PETER SUTHERLAND captures something unearthly and captivating about ordinary objects and everyday situations:

His photography is documentary in style, but the images aren’t simply literal – they conjure more than they document. SUTHERLAND’s heroes are the MAYSLES BROTHERS, WERNER HERZOG, and DANNY LYON, documentarians who put themselves in situations of intense living, capturing strange narratives that say as much about the recorder as the recorded. – by DAVID JACOB KRAMER

He has released several publications and films, most recently Buck Shots (powerHouse books) and Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project (Zeitgeist Films). Actually he is working on a documentary about RICHARD PRINCE (due for release in 2012).

PETER SUTHERLAND has shown in group exhibitions at Rivington Arms and Guild and Greyskull in New York, Circleculture Gallery in Berlin, V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, and the travelling Tiny Vices show curated by Tim Barber. He has had solo exhibitions at Someday Gallery in Melbourne, MU in Eindhoven, and Gallery White Room in Tokyo.
