American multimedia artist TONY OURSLER is primarily known for his use of film to create his own unique sculptural aesthetic, taking the images out of the television box and making them function in three-dimensional space. In short, he animates non-living objects with the use of projectors: disembodied mouths and eyes are projected onto soft white, rather bulky biomorphic sculptures whose irregularities add further distortions.

And through the combination of sculpture, multimedia projections and recordings of the human voice, OURSLER researches, in all his works, the interaction with the audience and the animation of psychological and philosophical concepts within an almost dreamlike zone: the youth culture, the relationship between media and the human mind and how systems of mechanical reproduction, like photography, film and television, have come to dictate not only the way we see the world, but also the ways that images are constructed.
