Pascal Lièvre

Il diabolo Gaga. 2010. 100 x 80 cm

Multidisciplinary artist PASCAL LIÈVRE works and lives in Paris. His work as a painter started more than ten years ago and culminated with his “museum of shades” ( he uses Chinese shadows to re-transcribe the outlines of silhouettes.  Using negative space and form, large paintings of classic art and antique Greek statues appear).

But from 2001, he uses all kind of media in order to “mediumise the world around us in all its diversity”. He uses indeed all kind off sources from philosophy, painting to popular music, cinema and politics, from Lacan to Britney Speers, Mao, aerobics and Munch. He mixes, remakes and transforms. His works are hybridisations of erudite and popular culture.

I really dig his series of photographs which focused on the theme of philosophy. My advice: view in person his work at VANESSA QUANG Gallery until October 30, 2010 in Paris or watch more on his website http://www.lievre.fr
