SEBASTIAAN BREMER in eight facts:
- He was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
- He moved to New York in 1992
- where he was assistant to several artists including INEZ VAN LAMSWEERDE & VINOODH MATADIN from 1996-2000
- in 2001, he had a solo debut, “Veronica” at Roebling Hall in New York
- He starts by enlarging unassuming snapshots, the kind that fall out of an overflowing album or pile up in a drawer. These more or less blurred photographs show family, friends, lovers, homes, and landscapes.
- Then he manipulates the pictures with thousands of tiny ink dots, which grow into delicate and fluid webs of rippling and rolling lines.
- BREMER’s work engenders such interest by creating a delicate balance between the macro and micro events in his compositions (I really invite you to experiment his website where you can enlarge his work and see all the details)
- Referencing visions by turns dreamy and druggy, BREMER’s dot-screens speak of our inevitably mediated relationship to the “real.
Enjoy!
